Arthanomics, the annual finance seminar of the Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode will be held on the 6th and 7th of Septemper, 2008 at the institute’s scenic campus in Kozhikode (Calicut), Kerala. The theme of this year’s seminar is “Mergers and Acquisitions – India Inc. on the prowl”.
Mergers and Acquisitions have emerged as a natural process of business restructuring throughout the world. India Inc. too has emerged as an active player in this dynamic scenario. It is in this context that the theme of this year’s seminar is focused on Mergers and Acquisitions. The purpose of the seminar is too look beyond the hype associated with M & A activity, and raise issues and obstacles that Indian companies have to be aware of in these turbulent times. In addition, the summit would also focus on Indian Private Equity and how it is capitalizing on the booming Indian Economy as well as on the changes and dynamics in the Banking and Insurance sector in the Indian context.
As has been the case with earlier editions of Arthanomics, this year too has an impressive line up of distinguished personalities who will be visiting the IIM Kozhikode campus during the event. The speakers have several years of experience in the areas of Investment Banking and Private Equity, and are thought leaders driving change in this dynamic industry. Among them are Mr. Kamlesh Gandhi, the Country Head of the Investment Banking division of Religare, Mr. Manoj Gupta, Vice President at Nexus Capital Advisors, Hemendra Aran, CEO – Aranca Capital, Srinivas Baratam, the Director of Private Equity at Lazard and Mr. Sadashiv Rao, Senior Director at IDFC.
A wide range of events will be conducted during Arthanomics, 2008 aimed at providing all the participants and guests an enriching and intellectually stimulating experience. These include two panel discussions with guest panelists on the topics – ‘Cross-border M&A’ and ‘Indian Private Equity’. In addition, knowledge sessions will be conducted by industry practitioners on topics such as ‘Capital Markets’, ‘Corporate Finance’ and ‘Banking and Insurance Industry’.
Over the years, Arthanomics has managed to attract active participation from the student community. Arthanomics provides participants a unique platform to showcase their skills in the wide variety of challenging competitions being organized. These include a finance case study contest, an equity research contest and a paper writing competition amongst many others.
