Global private equity major Baring Private Equity Partners, which is looking to pump investments in the Indian retail sector on Friday said it is talking with some major players for partnerships.
“We want to provide long-term value addition and expertise for high growth of retail players in the apparel, beauty, entertainment and health beauty segments,” Baring India Head (Retail Practice) Aakash Moondhra told the media.
He said Baring India is in talks with some major players in the retail industry and some kind of partnership “is expected in the coming months”.
On being asked about investments the company is willing to put into the retail sector, Moondhra said: “Capital is not a constraint for us. We are just seeking out the right retail firm having the correct business model.”
“Initially, we would be confined to single-brand format due to government regulations prohibiting FDI in multi-brand retailing,” Moondhra said.
Baring is looking at players from all categories, including top-end premium majors, mid-cap players and value retailers, for putting in investments.
“Rather than categorisation, we are looking for opportunity specific partnerships and the right positioning. Unlike some other players, Baring believes in long-term value addition and we seek to stay invested for longer period for a fruitful relationship,” he said.
Moondhra, however, did not provide any details regarding the retail sector players with whom Baring is in talks.
